Sacramento authorities are investigating a gun violence incident that erupted late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment deputies were breaking up an unlawful assembly of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Background
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park just after 6:30 in the evening after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, additional information came in concerning an alleged brawl occurring within the park grounds.
Air support flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, it became clear that hundreds of people had assembled at the park without official sanction.
The Shooting Itself
Responding units started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems telling the hundreds present to clear out. About 15 minutes were given for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were discharged. Gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Law enforcement immediately began locating gunshot victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
When the dust settled, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The four individuals — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their early to late twenties Howe Community Park shooting 2026 — were brought to area medical facilities. Emergency physicians stated that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, all four were in stable condition.
Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and provided medical assistance those with gunshot wounds at the park.
What Investigators Found
The center of the incident appears to have taken place along the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators found extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were noted in the wrought iron fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. This evidence pointed to that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down for a period of time. Crime scene personnel worked tirelessly well into the night.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Details gathered over police scanner frequencies revealed that a suspect Kia was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Surveillance footage established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
